- 6 steaks of pomfret fish.
- 1 finely grated fresh coconut
- 3 green chillies
- 1 bunch of coriander leaves, only leaves and no branches.
- 1 bunch of mint small with no stems
- 2 small pieces of ginger
- 3 garlic pieces
- 1/2 tsp cumin powder
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 4 tbsps lime juice
- 1 banana leaf washed properly, the middle spine removed from the leaf and then cut into 6 pieces of equal size.
- 1 tbsp vegetable/mustard/sunflower/ canola cooking oil
Preparation:
- First step to marinate the fish steaks properly. Spread the steaks properly in a large tray with ample amount of space, squeeze lime or lemon juice over it and salt them according to your taste making sure that the whole steak is properly marinated.
- Mix green chillies, mint leaves, garlic, turmeric powder, coconut, coriander leaves and ginger in a grinder and blend them together to make a paste. Avoid using water so that the consistency is maintained.
- Apply these pastes to the fish steak properly from both the sides.
- Take the banana leaf, clean it properly and apply oil on the smoother side of the banana leaf. Take the fish steak, keep it on the centre of the leaf and wrap it properly, making it into a parcel. Tie this parcel with a cotton string or a twine thread.
- Cook these small parcels in a steamer for around 20 minutes.
- Keep these parcels and serve according to the toppings. Served hot, unwrap the leaf and enjoy.
