Jagatsinghpur district of Orissa was formed on 1st April 1993. The headquarters of the district is Jagatsinghpir city. The average rainfall in the district is 1501.3 mms. the Sarala temple in the district is a famous traveller’s destination.

The area of the district is 1759 sq. kms. And is located 559 feet above sea level. The land in the district is fertile because of the waters of the rivers named Mahanadi, Kathajodi, Devi, Biluakhai. Taladanda & Machhagaon are the two major canals in the district.

Agriculture is the mainstay for many people in the district. Paddy, Sugarcane, Turmeric and Cotton are chiefly cultivated in the region. Paradip port has been instrumental in developing Industry in the state. Trade and commerce, transport, storage and communication, manufacturing, processing and repairing service are also other economic activities in the district.
