The Times of India is an English newspaper belonging to India. As per Audit Bureau of Circulations, this newspaper has the greatest circulation among all the newspapers, which are published in English, in the entire world. In the year of 2008, Audit Bureau of Circulations certified it as the greatest selling English newspaper, thereby giving it the rank of 8th highest selling newspaper in the whole world. As per the Indian Readership Survey of 2012, this newspaper is the most prevalent English newspaper in India along with its readership of nearly 76.43 lakhs. Ltd. which is governed by family of Sahu Jain.
History
19th Century
The foundation of the Times of India was laid on November 3rd 1838 as The Bombay Times and Journal of Commerce in the city of Bombay, where there was British Raj in India. A reformist hailing from Maharashtra, Mr. Raobahadur Narayan Dinanath Velkar launched it as a semi-weekly edition. This newspaper carries the news from Indian Subcontinent, World and Britain. Its daily editions were launched from the year 1850. In the year of 1861, it was rechristened as The Times of India soon after mixing up of three prevalent newspapers. During 19th century, the company of this newspaper gave employment to people more than 800 in number and had substantial circulation in Europe and India. After India got independence, the ownership of this newspaper was transferred to then conspicuous industrial family belonging to Dalmiyas. Later, it was owned by one of the greatest personalities, Sahu Shanti Prasad Jain belonging to Jain group hailing from Bijnore, a city in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

A well-known media group, Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd. publishes The Times of India.
