The foundation of Dinakaran was laid in the year of 1977 by K. P. Kandasamy in the great support of Mr. Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, when his respectable father-in-law, Mr. S. P. Adithanar, selected to give support to Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam during its separation from DMK. In the year of 2005, this paper was obtained from his offspring, Mr. K. P. K. Kumaran by the son of Kalanithi Maran.
In the year of 2006, this paper got into a big controversy when this paper published the results of the polls which revealed that an influential politician M. K. It led to the resignation of Dayanidhi Maran, a central minister.
