Dhina Thanthi is a daily reputed Tamil-language newspaper , which is propagated in Thanjavur, Pondicherry, Vellore, Cuddalore, Nagercoil, Salem, Trichy, Dindigul, Erode, Madurai, Coimbatore, Chennai, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Nellai.
This paper is governed by Mr. B. Sivanthi Aditanar. The foundation of this paper was laid by S. P. Adithanar. This person was a conspicuous lawyer, who was trained in the country of Britain and later practiced in the well-known city of Singapore, with its first edition published from city of Madurai in the year of 1942. The publication scattered over Tamil Nadu and also its neighboring states of Karnataka and Pondicherry in the year of 1940. He opened several editions in the cities of Thiruchi, Salem and Madras. While the attempt of Salem failed, the edition of Tiruchirapalli had to be opened again in the year of 1954.
This paper became one of the greatest dailies in the Tamil-language by its propagation just within a few years. This paper has been a progressive daily of Tamil since the year of 1960s. At present, this paper possesses 15 editions, with the latest one, the Mumbai Edition. This paper is the greatest propagated Tamil language newspaper in the cities of Pondicherry and Bangalore and also one of the greatest one in the state of Tamil Nadu. The circulation of Dhina Thanthi during July 2009 to December 2009 was nearly 11, 91,874 copies verified by Audit Bureau of Circulations. This paper has the greatest readership base among newspapers of Tamil along with 73, 53,000 readers, who are spread across the Tamil Diaspora.

In the year of 1942, Dhina Thanthi was launched in the city of Madurai with editions at the same time in the cities of Tiruchirappalli, Salem and Madras. This paper was founded by S.P. Aditanar, a conspicuous lawyer who was trained in the country of Britain. He designed Thanthi on the method of an English tabloid, The Daily Mirror. He focused to bring out such a newspaper which ordinary people would read, and which would give impetus to a reading habit even among the newly educated. During past, the newspaper that was printed in the city of Madras approached the region of southern Tamil after at least one day. Thanthi used the system of public bus for distributing the paper all over the region of the south Tamil and capitalized on the hunger for news of war that sprang after Singapore succumbed to the pressure of Japanese.
