Singalila Gandhi National Park

The national park of singalila is situated on the ridge with a humungous height of 7000 feet which provides majestic appearance to the place. Located in the picturesque district of Darjeeling, the park is very popular among the visitors who are also trekking enthusiasts and enjoy the travel to the Sundakphu route.

History

In the year 1986, it was termed as national sanctuary by the government and became entitled to the funds from the central. It achieved the park status in the year 1992 and since then has attracted large number of customers into its fold. Besides, it was also used as an important trekking route to access the majestic hills of the Sundakphu which is incidentally also the tallest peak in the state of Bengal.

Although the park is devoid of any humans, however it is well known that some people live along the trekking route which has become very famous over a period of time. Kala Pokhri regarded as one of the most important villages is located in the vicinity.  In the year 1905, mountaineers tried to conquer one of the largest peaks in the country through the above mentioned route but they could not accomplish the task. Jules along with the world renowned occultist was heading the expedition which ended in a failure.

Best Time To Visit

It is important to visit the park in the month of March or October because the trip might provide a sneak preview of the majestic land animals found in the wild life reserve. People must travel in small group because it would not create chaos among the people. One should listen to the instructions of the guide while venturing out in the forest because it can prove to be dangerous.

How To Get There

Maneybhanjan is the place which provides n ideal platform to undertake the trekking activity. People can travel to Siliguri within 3 hrs or take an alternative route from Darjeeling through the picturesque town of Ghoom.

Singalila ridge is a very important place because it provides a wonderful launch pad for scaling the majestic peaks of kanchenjungha and the highest mountains of the world. Apart from the spectacular blooming flowers, people can relish the trekking activity by using the national park as the optimal route.

Birding

Billed as one of the most important birding spots located in the eastern Himalayas, the place is a very enticing option for the tourists. It is inundated with migratory birds from all over the world.

Accommodation

Visiting to the Sailung house is a wonderful event for the users because it provides a cozy ambience to take rest. Multiple guest houses and the spate of small huts provide relief to the trekkers while they move through the places such as Tonglu. Gorkha council is responsible for the maintenance of the hotels and the rest houses.
