Simlipal National Park

Orissa is one of the most beautiful Indian states and that is known for the Simlipal National Park and Elephant reserve. These are situated in Mayurbhanj districts and it has got its name through cotton trees or Semul and they are known for spreading their smell all over. This park is spread across an area of approximately 846 kilometers square and you can also find some of the lavishing waterfalls at this place. They are known by the name of Barehipani and Joranda and this place is also known for 99 Bengal tigers, 430 elephants and many more animals. This is one of the national parks that are popular for Indian Bisons, anorchidarium and Chausingha. In order to enter this park, you need to take the route from Pithabata and that is approximately 22km through Baripada and 99 kms from Jashipur. It is essential to obtain entry permits and that would be given through range officer and you would be required to pay prescribed fees as well. The timings are from morning 6am to 12 pm afternoon and reservation timings are from 6 am to 9 am. The best time to visit this place is from 1st October to 15th of June.

History

There are many people who would not be aware of this fact that this elephant reserve was mainly established for the purpose of hunting ground. In year 1956, this was given the name of tiger reserve and it was under the project tiger during the time of 1973. It was in during the year 1979, when Crocodile mugger scheme was started. Orissa government had started the wildlife sanctuary during 1979 and that was spread in an expansion of 2200 kilometers squares. Again in year 1980, Orissa government has planned for 303 kilometers square national park and then its area was enlarged to 846 kilometers square. During the year of 1994, this place was declared as biosphere reserve and UNESCO had also added in its own list and this was done in year 2009. According to the research, more than 8,000 people are living in 60 villages and this is one of the biggest reasons that it is very popular and enjoys the prestigious status among 15 Indian Biospheres.

If you are planning to visit this park, then best time is from November month to mid of June month and you should ensure to visit before summer sunset.

Through Air

Bhubaneshwar is situated 300 km and Kolkata is situated 250 km and these are the bordering airports.

Through Rail

Baripada is only 17 kms, Balasore is only 76 kms through Lulung and you can also board the train through Jamshedpur that is only 115 kms.

Through Bus

Visitors can take the bus through Baripada and it is only 170 kms, kolkata that is 240 kms and Balasore that is 22 kms through Pithabata and this is the main point of entry. You can also plan your visit from Jashipur that is only 94 kms through Baripada and it is located in National Highway six and both of them have been connected through the help of bus services.
