History

One of Mizoram’s National Park which is most beautiful is the Murlen National Park. Park’s total area is 100 km². In Mizoram’s Champai District is situated Murlen which is east to Aizawl by around 245 kms. As this is close to Chin Hills this is considered important and is near to Indo-Myanmar border and is significant because of its proximity to the Chin Hills.

Many of the species which are threatened are supported by the Murlen Park.  The park is present in plenty with precipices which were once the wildlife’s sweet home. At one of precipices exists a huge cave, Tumkhuai Kham, were about 40 people could be accommodated in the night and many animals and varieties of monkeys frequent this place. In terms of the support of wildlife a precipice called Khampui is said to be one of greatest precipices in Asia or India. It is around 600 feet. Many rivers, brooks and rivulets travel across the park giving drinking water which is pure to the wildlife.

On a sunny day the sun’s ray which can penetrate in this forest is just 1%. The forest’s thickness is compared to that of the Amazon region’s forest in the South America. Few of the tress in the park is about 350 years old. One of the parks’ area doesn’t allow any sun ray’s to penetrate. This is the reason for the park to be known as land of no return or ‘losing area of seven fellow men’.
