History

Kudremukh region was declared as a reserved forest in 1916, by the British government. This step was taken to stop the extensive cut and burn agricultural practices from entering into the Ghats. a renowned tiger expert and environmentalist Dr ullas karanth did a systematic survey in 1983to 1984 ,and observed that kudremukh is an extensive  and suitable habitat for lion –tailed macaque most probably the tract has largest population of lion-tailed macaques in the western Ghats exterior to Malabar region . he also suggested  that this could be successfully used as a ‘flagship’ to save the whole biotic community he also organized a protection plan for the survival of lion tailed macaques in the Malabar region. On the basis of his report it was the suggestion of the Karnataka state wildlife advisory board to the government  that there should  be the creation of  kudremukh national park after that the government issued its first notification regarding kudremukh national park in 1987,
And the government of Karnataka declared these forests as national park on the basis of the suggestions of Dr ullas karanth

Kudremukh national park is spread over an area covering parts of three districts as, udupi, chickmagalur, and dakshinna Kannada. This is the highly hilly dense forests adjacent to the shoal vegetation on the Western Ghats uplands and the coastal plains on the western portion. the altitude of the kudremukh peak by which the national park derived its name is 1892 meters.

Vertical peaks and valleys enhance the beauty of the park. The velocity of the harsh monsoon winds stopped the growth of trees consequently the land is covered with abundance of grass   and the other side of the valley which got quite defense from the wind have good soil profile resulted in evergreen forests which are rich with orchids and mosses etc .the whole scenic beauty allure the trekkers, the fresh air soothes the soul. while trekking one can observe and study the numerous wild life species of birds ,plants, amphibians, reptiles, insects , butterflies and plants .
