Gugamal National Park

Gugamal National Park comprises of a region of 1673.93 km2.  Constructed in nineteen seventy four, this park is situated in Chikhaldara & Dharni Tehsils of District Amravati in Maharashtra state of India. It is a division of Melghat Tiger Reserve.

Fauna

The region is wealthy in wild mammals like Tiger, Panther, Sloth Bear, Wild Dog, Jackal, Hyena, Chausinga, Sambar (biggest Deer in world) Gaur, Barking Deer, Ratel, Flying squirrel, Cheetal (sort of Deer), Nilgai, Wild Boar, Langur, Rhesus Monkey, & Macaque. 25 classes of fishes and several types of butterflies are also found here.
During March 1990 & February 1991, Crocodiles were again brought in an organized way in Siddu Kund in River Gadga close by to Dhakna & Hathikund in the River Dolar within the National Park.

The Gugumal National Park at Amravati in Maharshtra state is among the most famous nationalized parks in Maharashtra state. Maharashtra is abode to a broad range of scarce animals & birds like tiger, crocodile, bison, gawa, neelgai, wild deer, sambar & a host of traveling birds. Several wildlife reserves are here in the state, providing wonderful chances to see rich & varied wildlife in the middle of innate locations.

History

The Gugamal National Park was constructed in 1974 year, & the park extends around a region of approximately 1673.93 km2. It is situated in Chikhaldara & Dharni Tehsils of District Amaravati in the Hills of Satpura of state Maharshtra. Gugamal is well known as 1 of the final residual home of the Indian tiger class in Maharashtra.

Gugamal National Park creates the central portion of The Melghat Tiger Reserve. In the year of 1975 it is nominated as a Sanctuary because of ecological, floral & faunal importance of the area.

The forest in rough & hilly region of Melghat is usual Southern arid deciduous jungle. There are seven fifty classes of plants found here. There are ninety tree species, sixty six shrub species, three hundred and sixteen herb species, fifty six climbers, twenty three sedge species & ninety nine grass species. At the Melghat Tiger Preserve around 50-75 additional species have been recognized & few additional are predictable to recognize in the upcoming year.

Significant tree species include Tectona grandis, Ain, Tiwas, Aola, Lendia, Dhawada and Kusum. Bamboo & Teak is extensively extended in the jungles. The region is rich in remedial flora.

Melghat Tiger Reserve is situated in Chikhaldara & Dharni tehsils of District Amaravati in Hills of Satpura series. This is among the final residue home of Indian tiger in state Maharashtra.

In 1974, Melghat Tiger Reserve was formed & the Directorate of Project Tiger, Melghat began working from Feb. 22nd, 1974. In regard of the environmental, floral & faunal importance of the area, on September 5th, 1975, this Reserve was elected a sanctuary.

Buses of State transport works from Amravati & Nagpur towards Chikhaldara.

By rail : Badnera/Amravati is the closest railway station at 110-km distant from the park.

By air : Nagpur is the closest airport at 225-km distant from the park.

By road : Travelers may arrive at Semadoh through Badnera / Amaravati (hundred to hundred ten km) within three hours journey through road.
