Kohima is one of the district of Nagaland states. Kohima is also the state capital of state Nagaland since 1st December 1963. The Kohima district was divided over period and two new districts are developed over this time, namely Phek and Dimapur districts.

Kohima is situated at high altitude, at 1444 m above the sea level.

The district shares borders with Assam state on the west and the Manipur state on the south, Wokha district of Nagaland on the north and Phek and Zunheboto districts on the east side. The state assembly is located in the Kohima, thus it is political hub of state.

The district Kohima has good and pleasant weather round the year. As the district situated on high altitude, it has cool summer and pleasant winter. In winter, occasionally one can find snowfall. In summer the district gets the rain and average rain fall of the district is 200 cm. The Kohim is very rich in evergreen forest and flora and fauna.

The district is the home town of the Angami Naga tribe. There are sixty different Naga tribes known to live in the state Nagaland. Each tribe has its own language and they are using for communication. But Nagaland Government has declared English as official language for communication.
