Parliament Museum
Parliament museum was established to facilitate visitors to go through the archives of Indian Parliament, more particularly how the freedom fighters of this country endeavoured to install a parliamentary democracy in India. This museum in the Parliament of India Library Building in New Delhiis located close to the SansadBhavan. It was inaugurated by then Speaker of LokSabha on 29 December 1989, in the Annexebuilding of the Parliament House and later it was shifted to its present place in a Special Hall of the SansadiyaGyanpeeth, which is intended to function as the Parliament Library Building. It was inaugurated on 7 May 2002 by the then President of India, K. R. Narayanan, while the recent interactive museum was inaugurated by the then President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on Aug 15 2006.
The interactive museum helps the interacting visitor with the story of freedom struggle of India and the Parliament Museum houses rare collection of gifts that the foreign delegates presented to The Speakers of LokSabha during their official visits.
History
The store house of parliament’s history in the form of Parliamentary Museum and Archives (PMA) was inaugurated by the then LokSabha Speaker on 29 December 1989.
The thought of PMA must have come to the minds of organisers, mainly to preserve the facts of the past and the present for the future to know, by protecting the details from any infringements or imaginary inclusions as time passes out. The archives containing the solid historic documents and articles connected with the Constitution are carefully arranged to understand the history and growth of parliamentary institution and the political system of the country.
Different Sections in Museum
PMA has been organised in three distinct parts viz.
(a) Parliamentary Museum
Parliamentary Museum preserves the Archives acquired in cooperation with official agencies, organising them for Members of Parliament and the general public on classified themes, which would offer knowledge on parliamentary and constitutional matters.
(b) Parliamentary Photographs and Films Section, and
This Section of Parliamentary Museum presents the visitor, the authentic, comprehensive and up-to-date pictorial record of the institution of Parliament. There are about 10000 Photo Archives now available in this section.
(c) Parliamentary Archives.
This is the literal Archives Section of PMA, the material which are connected with the framing of India’s Constitutionacquired and preserved, and also the record of the growth and working of parliamentary institutions , which include the private papers of parliamentarians without any discrimination of their political affiliations.
Mission
The objective of this museum is to archive recordsthat would be available for consultation to scholars, to promote scholarly ventures in the aspects of parliamentary and democratic traditions, practices and legislative institutions. PMA would that way act as a treasure-house for material required for research and to preserve such material from time to time.
Exhibitions
The Museum is so arranged that with the help of models, illustrations,charts, objects, photographs and other visual techniques, the evolution and functioning of parliamentary institutions in India and abroad. is explained to the visitor. The Museum is divided into three sections.
Section I focuses on the aspects of the nature and shape of democratic institutions in India first, which existed as early as Vedic Age and during the historical periods that followed. The growth of modern parliamentary institutions during British period is illustrated next , while the development of parliamentary institutions in post-independence period till date is afterwards.
In Section II parliamentary patterns in other countries are shown through photographs. Section III deals with State Legislatures. It is in this Section, photographs of buildings and other images relating to the State legislature are displayed.

Facilities
Parliament Museum in New Delhi being an interactive story-telling museum on Democratic Heritage in India, gives scope for seeing the situations spanning 2500 years of Indian history of democracy through visuals appearing on one’s own selection of the theme, which are distributed in six different times.
Visitors also have facility to customise their eCards carrying these themes in their greetings messages digitally mailed to their friends. In fact, with a single click one can send 10 cards.
