History
Mural art was applied in ancient times mainly for decorative purposes, making halls and rooms impressive with the paintings of that form, sometimes also to give an illusion that the rooms are bigger than what they are. Kerala State has many sites with Mural art works, including Anjanad valley rock paintings in Idukki district, besides those adorning the walls of many temples.
Mural paintings are thematic too, such as human beings in different characteristics depicted by different colours, some of the paintings expressing society’s concerns, view-points and values, because they are of nature that the members of public can view them as they enter the hall adorned by Mural paintings.
