Jaya Chamaraja Art Gallery Mysore
Due to a huge collection of artifacts and paintings belonged to the Mysore Wodeyars, the best art gallery from South India is popularly known as the Jayachamarajendra Art Gallery in the city of Mysore. There is also a great collection of the paintings of Rembrandt in this Jayachamarajendra art gallery. The Rembrandt collection is a unique kind of collection out of the world and only found in Russia. There is also huge collection of western work done by Gunoy miniature paintings, work by Titan, A. Caddy, and P.P. Ruben etc.
History
In year 1875, the palace of Jaganmohan that is three storied building was transformed into this art gallery. This art gallery also has a collection by British Army office Col. Scott who collection is very valuable. He made a tremendous work from the side of British Army in fighting against the Tippu Sultan. In year 1950 this collection of Col. Scott is transferred to the Srirangapatna. There is also a collection of Gravure prints that shown the war of Mysore against Tipu Sultan and HyderAli by the officers of the British Army. An exclusive work of Raja Ravi Varma, who is a popular painter known as Kerala prince is also shown in this gallery. The paintings of Raja Ravi Varma shown the epics and incidents from the past and is main attraction of this gallery to catch the visitors.
Collections
The paintings of gold leaf of European school, Bengal, and Mysore are also displayed in this gallery. Traditional paintings of year 1875 includes in this collection. The works of popular artists like Jiladin Ville of German, Colton of Italy, Sterling of England, and Nikolav Roerich of Russia also shown in this gallery. There were lots of Indian artists also named as Haldenkar, Raja Ravi Verma, M. Verappa, Subbukrishna, and Ishwardas whose work is also displayed in this gallery. For exhibits of the gallery, the work of palace artist named M. Ramanarasaiah is responsible. He made a large number of paintings for the royal family of Mysore and basically he was guardian of the gallery. G. Venkatachalam who was also the artist was the guardian of this gallery.
There were huge collection of paintings of Krishnaraja Wodeyar III reigns that were displayed on the third floor of gallery. His procession of Dasara is showed on one side. The celebration of the Dasara is also shown in this gallery in the form of visual records. The drawing of charior procession by elephants is shown in the form of paintings of Krishnaraja Wodeyar III. There were lots of games also depicted on the wall the gallery that made the visitors attracted. There were lots of games that are displayed like Srikanta Sayujya and Devi Sayujya through which the visitors assumed themselves moving towards the heaven by playing these games. This wall also showed the Indian chess game. The expert of these games is Krishnaraja Wodeyar III. He invented many new games that are depicted in the art gallery. On the second floor of this gallery, all the exclusive instruments of music were displayed. All these instruments were used by the Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV and other maharajas several times. There is also a display of sculptures, photographs, Chinaware, and ornamental furniture in this gallery.
How to Reach
This art gallery can easily be reachable by bus from the Main bus stand. It is located few distance far from the KSRTC stand and is opposite to the city bus stand.
By Road
About 139 kms from the West Bangalore, Mysore is located. These two cities were connected by the state highway. It takes about 3 hrs to travel to Mysore from the Bangalore through this highway that gives a memorable experience. Towards the Mysore, the bus service is provided by the Road Transport Corporation of the Karnataka.
By Train
The distance between the Mysore and Bangalore can easily be covered by the train. Via Bangalore, one can easily and fastest reach the Mysore.
