Conservation
Dr. M. Veerappa Moily, the Union Minister of Corporate Affairs has made efforts to include 455.96 sq km land under the Pushpagiri wildlife sanctuary. The Wildlife experts as well as enthusiasts are also working in this regard. But people who have strayed in the area have a fear of losing agricultural land. Efforts have been made by writing letters addressing the Environment Minister to endorse the request. Experts believe that expansion of land to the Pushpagiri wildlife sanctuary would prove to be beneficial for creating a great landscape along with declaration of Kudremukh tiger reserve. The Pushpagiri region is enriched with splendid flora and fauna supporting various endangered species in the evergreen forests some of them being lion-tailed macaques, great hornbills, Bengal tiger, brown palm civet and Travancore cane turtle etc.
