Taj Mahal

Taj Mahal is the building comes under seven wonder of the world. This is a great monument constructed by Mughal Emperor Shahjahan in the memory of his lovely wife Mumtaz Mahal. The word “Taj Mahal” carries the meaning of “Crown of Palaces”.  This building is the example of the most valuable and finest architecture. To complete this building various designers from Persia, Turkey, and Middle East and from India were hired.  The mixed architecture with a unique design resulted in a world class building.  It is also the amazing fact that foundation of this monument is based on wooden slabs. During 1983, Taj Mahal has given the status of world heritage building.

History

Taj Mahal is the finest example of a memorial and due to the stylish and strong construction; this building has been listed in world heritage building and also cover under the Seven Wonders of the World. Total 22,000 laborers were used to make this grand building completion done in 22 continuous years. This monument was started in 1632 and completed in 1654. Prime building was completed in 1648 but after five year, all the surroundings and other important buildings were constructed and finally the Taj completed in 1654.  In the board of architects, Abdul Karim, Mamur Khan, Ustad Ahmad Lahouri and Makramat Khan were included. This fact is evident from the history of Taj available in various libraries in India. A myth that on the cutting of hand of architect, he asked for a while and made a hole in the dome from where a drop falls on Mumtaz Mahal’s grave.  British engineers were also not succeeded in finding that point. This is completely wrong.  No such point is there in Taj.

Architecture

This is a mono-cylindrical pattern of Mughal architecture. The largest structure made with white marble is standing on a deep wooden base. This is a symmetrical building capped with a dome like other monuments created by Mughals in India, the basement was done in Persian style of Architecture. Base is made in various chambers so that the external structure is long lasting. On the base of this chamber, the huge platform is made to support the minarets of heavy weight.  Cubical shape is given to the base of the Taj Mahal. Inside the Taj towards dome, there are two balconies are created with the finest carving in world and lattice work with marble. This creation is only in India and nowhere found in world.  The design of this building is kept symmetrical in all sides so that four minarets can shoulder the huge load of domes over it.  Every minaret has the staircase and that ends up to a balcony. Internal chamber has the grave of Mumtaz Mahal and Shah Jahan and their actual graves are in the basement of the Taj.

Large Marble dome is capped in steep sloppy way with interlocking carvings and patched work in Persian style over the terraces and borders. The height of the building is approximately 115 ft.  It was the excellence of the architecture of that period that base of the Taj is kept the same long as the height is.  In the basement of the Taj Mortar were used with Urd Pulse and wooden peels mixture and on the basis of that mixture, this building is standing with pride.
