Jallianwala Bagh
Jalian Wala Bagh is located in the western portion of Amritsar district of Punjab in India. This is a border city between India and Pakistan and due to this fact this city has a different strategic importance. In this city, a grand massacre was happened when General Dyer order an open shoot. In this Bagh (Garden) there was meeting of common public to get India free from British. There was a single and very narrow way to enter and came out. Dyer placed the armed personnel on this gate and ordered firing. Unarmed public was shot dead very brutally. Many of them were jumped into a well located inside to save their lives but died with the human load coming over. Till date there are bullet hit points which are covered with wooden frames to recollect the memories of that day. In this massacre more than 380 persons were died on spot and 1200 persons were noticed injured. Later Dyer was promoted to the rank of Brigadier – General in British Army. In that even Dyer ordered the riflemen of Gurkha regiment to fire. Firing continued till the ammunition exhausted and it took 10 minutes. It was very easy for British to shade the precious blood of mankind just for a racial satisfaction. That black date in the history of India was 13 April 1919. Later Dyer was opposed by House of Commons and supported by House of Lords. He became the hero in Britain and removed from the service. This event made the turning point in Indian Freedom movement.
History
The event was the result of an attack on Miss Marcella Sherwood. She was a missionary and was feared about the safety of her students being the atmosphere was against British Empire. Daily various protests and demonstration were being made. There were some violent and some movements were non violent. When he sent her Indian students to their home and rush towards her home on cycle, a mob caught her and beaten badly. They left her on road for die. Suddenly some local people came and escaped the lady, gave her first aid and safely brought her till her residence. General Dyer, passed an order for every Indian who will pass through that street where Miss Marcella Sherwood was beaten, will crawl on hands and knee. Just after two days he took 50 soldier of British Indian Army and went on the meeting venue, Jalian Wala Bagh. He ordered fire till the ammunition is not exhausted. The narrow street capable enough to escape a four persons at a time was covered by soldiers and firing started. The worst massacre was done at this place and ended up with the death of more than 360 innocent unarmed people and more than 1200 injured. In dead and injured people, there were children women and old aged persons were also included.
Shaheedi Kuaan
During the massacre, many people jumped into that well but this was not proved the life saving option as over population in the well multiple the death tolls.
War Memorial
There is a war memorial placed in the memory of the person sacrificed in that massacre on 13 April 1919.
There is the piercing of bullets which are framed with wood to recollect the massacre of that day.
