Sikkim Sang Monastery
Sang Monastery is a Buddhist hermitage situated in the eastern side of Sikkim in India. Sang Monastery is located in the small village called Sang near Rumtek town. Sanga Monastery is known to be the 2nd oldest Monastery of the village. It is another school practising lineage in Karma Kagyu School.
Rumtek is situated 23 kilometres from Gangtok. The town is very peaceful and picturesque. During July to September one can experience beautiful greenery in the town.
History
Sang Monastery was constructed in 1912 AD. Local’s belief that the Monastery was built by a Landowner called Sang Athing. A local astrologer advised the landowner to construct the Monastery on the land where monastery is currently situated is on the same level of his private house. Astrologer advised the landowner that it would be useful for him and for his complete family. Landowner Sang bestowed this land to construct the Monastery.
Architecture
Sang Monastery is one of the beautiful Monasteries in the town. In the main stand inside the Monastery one can experience hand impression of Phaya Lama. Ideally no one knows his real name the name Phaya was baptised by the locals of Sang. Phaya Lamastayed in Sang Monastery for several years. He was one of the great teachers of Sang Monastery. He consumed most of the time meditating in the beautiful cave at the valley situated near Rumtek. Locals believe that Phaya Lama have cowed many evils in many parts of Sang and other areas surrounding Rumtek and Sang.
Currently new lamas known to be the teachers of the Monastery are constructing new Monastery below the old by seeking the financial help from the Government of Sikkim.

How to Reach
By Air
Sang Monastery is located 23 Kilometres from Gangtok in Sikkim, Currently there is no airport facility in Sikkim. Bagdogra is the nearest airport situated 124 kilometres from Gangtok.
By Rail
There is no railway terminal in Sikkim. Siliguri and Jalpaiguri is the nearest railway station.
By Road
Road connectivity to Sikkim is thru the nation at highway. NH30 and NH31a is the highway which connects Siliguri till Gangtok. Local bus service is called SNT Sikkim National Transport which connects Sikkim one place to another. Private buses and taxis are easily available. One can also visit Sikkim via Tibet.
