Sikkim Rhenock Monastery
Rhenock Monastery is a Buddhist hermitage situated in Sikkim of north eastern region of India.Rhenock is a small village situated 60 kilometres from in the eastern side of Gangtok on the same way to jelepla pass. Rhenockmeans Black peak situated in the thrilling eastern region of india.
History
In 13th Century Rhenock was surrounded with the thick forest. People stabled here after 16th century are mainly Nepalis also known as Gorkhas, Marwari,Biharis, Lepchas and Bhutias were also later settled in Rhenock.Lepchascommunity were the first to settle in Rhenock. Formerly lepchas followed Sharmanism far ahead they started following Buddhism. Some also follow christanity.Bhutia community were also follower of Buddhism, Bhutias are unique in their culture.Nepalis were the followers of Hindusm post 1990 they turned into Buddhist.
Festival
Rhenock is a small town. Followers of different religions and communities are settled in Rhenock. People of Rhenock compliment every ones trust and acceptance overall these communities are very peaceful as they celebrate all the festivals.
How to Reach
By Air
Rhenock Monastery is situated in Sikkim. Due to high territory Sikkim doesn’t hold any airport. The nearest airport to Sikkim is Bagdogra Airport situated near Gangtok situated 124 kilometres from Gangtok. Helicopter facility is available from Gangtok to Sikkim. The journey is of 30 minutes and four passengers can travel at one time.
By Rail
Sikkim doesn’t hold and railway station. The nearest railway stations to Sikkim are Siliguri and new Jalpaiguri.
By Road
National highway no 31 and 31a are well connected to Siliguri toGangtok. SNT also known as Sikkim National Transport are the bus service available in Sikkim. Private buses and taxis are available in Sikkim. One can also connect Sikkim via Tibet thru the foothill pass of Nathu la.
