Ministry Of Minority Affairs
The Ministry of Minority Affairs came into being so as to provide an approach which was more focused towards those issues related to the minorities. It was also formulated to facilitate the implementation of the overall planning and coordination, policies, review and evaluation of the regulatory framework as well as of the development programmes which are meant for the benefit of the communities of the minority tribes in the country.
The ministry also keeps note of the tasks which are undertaken by the linguistic minorities. It also coordinates with the Commissioner for Linguistic Minorities and its office. Its task is also to provide for the preservation as well as for the protection of the shrines of the Muslims in India and that of those non-Muslim shrines which are in Pakistan. All of this is done as per the rules and regulations of the Pant-Mirza agreement in 1955 with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) after a dialogue. The Minister who is in charge of the Ministry is also Chairperson of the Central Wakf Council, India.
