MISAL is a plateful of lentils sprouted and served with chopped onions and tomatoes along with Pav buns which are fried in butter along with a chutney of red chillies which is known as KAT. It is recommended to keep water handy if one is having Misal for the first time.Maharashtrian Misal Recipes details are not tough and if you follow the instructions for Maharashtrian Misal Recipes can be made easily. Misal as known to be spicy also comes handy as can be served with Pav or with Poha depending upon the mood, and Chutneys can be varied according to the taste.
For Misal Ingredients Needed Are:
1 small cup of matki or moth dal kept in water and soaked overnight for sprouting.
2 boiled potatoes.
½ tsp black special Maharashtrain masala or maharashtrain spice
½ tsp homemade Garam Masala if possible.
1 tsp powder of red chilli.
Salt according to the taste.
1 crushed and finally grated garlic.
1 tsp fine chopped ginger
2 tsp juice of lemon
3 tbsp edible oil.
4 cups of handy water.To Serve:
1 cup Indian Poha( beated rice) or farsan mixture (chivda)
1 cup finely cut and chopped onion.
2 tbsp finely chopped Coriander leaves
1 lemon cut into small pieces.
10 slices of plain bread
Method Of Making:
For Pohe :- Wash and drain the farsan mixture and allow it to soften for 15 minutes.
- Heat oil and add peanuts then poha along with salt, turmeric powder and mix gently.
- Allow the mixture to heat. Fluff them in between.
- Add lemon and coriander leaves and allow them to separate.
For Misal :
- Chop the potatoes in big pieces and drain and wash the Matki.
- Boil Matki until it becomes soft.
- Mix all the masalas in a bowl and make a paste.
- Heat oil in a pan and add ginger garlic and stir for 1 minute.
- Mix all the masala paste and let it fry until the oil separates.
- Add potato and drain matki and let it simmer for 20 minutes till a layer of oil comes on the top.
- Add salt and other toppings and seasoning as per your taste.
- Take Poha and add Misal on top of it. The serving is ready and is good when eaten hot.
