Washim district is located in the state of Maharashtra. The headquarters of the district is located at Washim.

The district covers an area of about five thousand one hundred and fifty square kilometers. The Lok Sabha constituencies of the district are located at Akola and Washim-Yavatmal. The important cities of the district of Washim are

The district Washim was carved out in the year 1998 on the first of July. Previously, Washim was known by the name Vatsagulma, the capital of Vakataka dynasty. In the year 1905, during the British Raj era, the district of Washim was bifurcated into Yeotmal and Akola district. In the year 1998, it again reunited to form Washim district. At present the district of Washim has three Vidhan Sabha constituencies which are Washim, Risod and Karanja. While Risod falls under the constituency of Akola Lok Sabha, Washim and Karanja fall under the constituency of Washim-Yavatmal Lok Sabha. The strategic location of the region helped Washim to earn the status of the district.

The Balaji temple of the district is very famous. A lot of people from different corners of the world come to this district to visit the temple.
