In the western central region of India, lies the district of Sangli. About 24.51 percent of the district is urban. The district headquarters of this district lies in the city of Sangli. The two largest cities of this district are Miraj and Sangli.

Kundal, the area around the district of Sangli was the Chalukya’s capital. Kundal is a village which is about sixteen hundred years of age.

The district of Sangli is situated in the western portion of Mahrashtra. It is encircled by Bijapur district to the east, Solapur and Satara to the north, Ratnagiri in the west and Belgaum and Kolhapur in the south. Sangli is located on the river basin of Krishna and Warna rivers.

The area covered by the Sangli district is about 8,578 kilometer square. The renowned industrial township of the state, Kirloskarwadi, is also situated in that district of Sangli. This place has been known as one of the most attractive industrialized towns of the country.
