Mumbai suburban district, located in the western part of India, is one of the districts of the state of Maharashtra. This district falls under the Konkan Division and is the second smallest districts of the state. The headquarters of this district lies in Bandra.

In 150 A.D. Ptolemy brought in limelight the place of Mumbai, earlier known as Bombay. There were several islands in this district which were at that time ruled by the agris and the kohlis who were the local residents of Mumbai. In the year 1734, the district of Mumbai Suburban was ruled by the Portuguese.

The area occupied by this district is about 369 kilometer square. This district combined with the district of the Mumbai city form the Mumbai metropolitan area.
