This district is valued for historical connotations - of being the region that had been important territories of erstwhile twin princely states of Dewas before India's independence. Vindhya Range straddles the district and its northern portion is Malwa plateau unlike southern one which is the Valley of Narmada River.

Farming lands of Dewas are best suitable for wheat, sorghum, and rice and cotton cultivation. Its beauty is twofold with flowing Narmada from one part to other. Dewas is surrounded by Sehore, Harda, Khandwa, Khargone, Indore, Ujjain and Shajapur districts in south, west and north respectively. Culturally enriched district is part of Ujjain Division of MP.

Today Dewas district comprises of six tehsils named Sonkatch, Dewas, Bagli, Kannod, Tonk-Khurd and Khategaon. The headquarters of these tehsils are linked with each other. Bombay-Agra National Highway No.3 passes through Dewas tehsil. It is important as district headquarters. The city has best amenities which make it modern town.
