Meghalaya Khasi Language
Origin
The most significant and official language of Indian state of Meghalaya is the language of Khasi. This language is considered as the Austro Asiatic language and belongs to this language family. Moreover this language inhabits certain groups such as Khasian and Khasi. It even includes some dialects which as Bhoi Khasi and Nonglung. It is estimated that there are about 865,000 speakers of this language living in state of Meghalaya and also in hill areas of Assam. Even a fair number of speakers are founded in Bangladesh state which lies close to Indian state. In year of 2005, this Khasi language has been declared as an official language. Furthermore this idiom is rich in folk tale and lore which lie behind the names of several hills, rivers, mountains, waterfalls, flowers, birds and animals.
Dialects
The dialects in this language are mutually intelligible. The Nonglung and Bhoi dialect are considered separate idioms. Moreover the Cherrapunji, War and Khynriam are other dialects of this language. This War and Cherrapunji dialects shares some similar lexicity and are standard.
Script
Anciently, Khasi language has no script as such. William Carey made several attempts in jotting down the Assamese script. Moreover numerous books were published in this script and which is even considered a significant manuscript of Khasi religion. Later on in 1841 year, Latin script was written which also contains some similarities with Welsh alphabet.
Grammar
Grammar in Khasi language also plays a vital role. This language consists of a system which is pervasive gender. Moreover there are four genders in this language which are known as feminine, masculine, plural and diminutive. Furthermore it inhabits a classifier which is used apparently only with the numerals. The adjectives, pronouns, verbs and adverbs all play significant part in grammar of Khasi.

There are wide number of books which inhabits novels, newspapers and as well as poetries which are printed in Khasi language. U Soso Tham is one of the known poets which wrote several poetries.
