Tamil Nadu Sholavaram Lake
Sholavaram Lake is situated in the city of Ponneri Taluka of Thiruvallur district. It is considered to be one of the rain-fed reservoirs. Its water is supplied to Chennai. Sholavaram is quaint and peaceful village which is situated on the 24th Kilometer North of Chennai. The village has become popular due to its lake and motor racing. The strip on which the motor races are held was once part of an airstrip during World War II,
History
The village of Sholavaram is a quiet town 24 kilometers North of Chennai. The village had a vintage type World War-II airfield at Red Hills which was reachable from the convergence very near to the CRPF Camp, immediately after the Military Hospital. Today, this rail link line extension ends at PTMS. It was also known for its motor sport activities until 1988 which has since stopped here when the new race course began operations.

Marina Beach: This beach has been encompassed by gardens and it is situated to the South of the War Memorial. There are evidences to show that it was one of the second largest in the world, about 13 kilometers.
Covelong: If you wish to have quiet and lazy holidays come to the fishing village of Covelong which also has a wonderful stretch of beach. It is situated some 55 kilometers en-route to the city of Mamallapuram which is some 60 kilometers from Madras. The beach has many breathtaking views and is a seaside, ideal for a relaxing holiday.
Elliots Beach: It is located along the shoreline in the city of Chennai. It is one of the longest beach in India and the second longest in the world.
Valluvar Kottam: It is a temple which has been dedicated to the memory of the Philosopher and poet Thiruvalluvar. This temple has one of the largest auditoriums in Asia. It is situated on the convergence of the Kodampakkam High Road and Valluvar Kottam Road.
Parathasarathy Temple: This temple can be found on the Triplicane High Road and is a huge Temple. It is a Hindu Temple which has been built in devotion to Lord Krishna. It was constructed in the 8th Century by the Pallava Kings and has been tastefully renovated since.
The National Art Gallery and Museum: This museum was built in 1906. It was originally built in the memory of queen Victoria. The museum has a beautiful certal dome with many smaller ones supported by pillars from every side. When India assumed independence this museum was converted into an art Gallery in the year 1951. You will be able to see many bronze artifacts belonging to the 10th to 13th centuries. Painting lovers can feast their eyes on many of the Rajasthani and Mughal paintings of the 17th century.

Mahabalipuram: It is a sea port which is situated on the Coast of Coromandel facing the Bay of Bengal. It is a beautiful place to watch as it was a well built sea port of the 7th and 10th centuries of the Pallava dynasty. It was considered to be a second capital of the Pallava Kings who ruled the kingdom of Kanchipuram.

Moreover if you plan to visit the lake by road then also Sholavaram is very well connected to all the major cities in the Southern India. You can also reach the lake as there are a good number of buses to every city.
