Rajasthan Pichola Lake
Lake Pichola is an artificial lake constructed in 1362. It is located in the Lake City of Udaipur in the state of Rajasthan in India. Udaipur has many lakes; some are natural while some others are artificial. Most of the artificial lakes have been constructed to meet the drinking water requirements and for irrigation purposes. Lake Pichola is a fresh water lake constructed for drinking water. The lake contains four islands within itself. They are Jag Nivas, Jag Mandir, Mohan Mandir and Arsi Vilas. World famous Lake Palace is situated in the Jag Nivas and Jag Mandir has a palace built on it with the same name. Mohan Mandir also has a palace, the smallest among the four, Arsi Vilas was the ammunition depot and it too has a small palace built on this island.
History
The lake has been constructed by a Banjara Tribes man in 1362 and later on modified and enlarged by Maharana Udai Singh. The legend is that the king selected this place to be his capital as he got attracted by the beauty of the lake on the backdrops of greenery. Prince Khurram, who rebelled against Jahangir sought refuge in Mewar and accommodated in the palace in Jag Mandir. Later he became the Mughal Emperor and accepted the name Shahjehan.
Attractions
Lake Palace is the main attraction here apart from the boating. It has been converted to a heritage hotel now and is located in the middle of Jag Niwas Island. The Jag Mandir Palace in Jag Mandir Island is also an attraction. However Mohan Mandir Island and Mohan Mandir Palace attain importance during annual Ganguar Festival. Earlier the King used to watch this festival from this palace and now the visitors will throng to this island during this season. Arsi Vilas, the smallest island in the lake was once the depot for ammunitions. Now it has been converted to a bird sanctuary which houses birds of different species. Well illuminated lake shores add more pleasure to the boating after sunset. You can enjoy the visual treat along with the cool breeze.

Udaipur, being an important tourist place is well connected with the state capital Jaipur andn national capi9tal New Delhi. You can reach at Udaipur by air, rail or road from other parts of the country. Once you are in Udaipur, you can reach at Lake Pinchola by local bus, Taxis or Rickshaws.
