Rajasthan Fateh Sagar Lake
Fateh Sagar Lake is an artificial lake constructed in 1678. Located in the northern side of Lake Pinchola in Udaipur city of Rajasthan this lake attracts a good number of visitors every year. The lake has three Islands contained in it. The largest island consists of a zoo and a good restaurant. Second largest island is a park and the third one houses the famous Udaipur Solar Observatory. The lake and its surroundings offer different types of entertainments to the tourists including boating. Besides, there are many places in and around Udaipur to visit. Hence the visit to this city will be worth always with living memories for a life time. There is no doubt that the city will take you to the past. Many forts and monuments talk the history of the land. Besides, museums also give you an update about the history. Hence the city is considered an important location for history tourism.
History
The lake was originally constructed by Maharana Jai sing of Mewar in 1678. It was created using mud and the purpose was irrigation to the nearby farmlands. However, the dam has been washed away in the floods of late 1800’s and the same has been reconstructed by the then King of Mewar Rana Fatah Singh. The foundation stone for the same has been laid by the Duke of Connaught, son of Queen Victoria. Thus the lake came to have the name of the then king Fatah Singh.
Attractions
Main attraction here is the boating to the three islands located inside the lake. The largest one houses Nehru Park which consists of a great garden and zoo and an open air restaurant. This is an oval shaped island and the most part of it is being covered with flowers of different colors and shapes. This is an ideal place to spend some time in solitude. The small Lilly pond will add more attraction to the calm atmosphere prevailing here. The zoo housed in this island contains animals from different species. The second Island houses a public garden with fountains and other attractions. Most of the people coming here are in search of solitude and the nature and the atmosphere here helps them to do meditation and other mental exercises. The third island houses the Udaipur Solar Observatory which attracts many students and scholars too apart from the public. Besides, you can have a very good view of the Statue of Rana Pratap sitting on his famous horse Chetak. This statue has the honor of the one among two statues made for pets in the world. You can also enjoy the beauty of Aravalli Hills from here. If you go out of the city there are many places of historical importance. In real each and every area of this region has many tales to tell about war and love. The region has witnessed long battles with Mugals and with other kings. Many forts constructed at different places in and around the city talks about the importance of this city in Indian History.
Apart from places of importance, the city has a rich past of culture and heritage. There are many festivals being celebrated here to display the richness of the past. Hariyali Amavasyam Mela is one such festival being celebrated on the shores of Fateh Sagar Lake every year during August –Seprtember.
How to Reach
Udaipur is well connected with rest of the state. There are regular bus services from the state capita Jaipur. You can reach Jaipur by road, rail or air from any other parts of India and then you can have a long drive through the national highway 8. The scenery on both sides of the roads will be a feast to the eyes of the beholder. If you are travelling during rainy season, you can see many small waterfalls and rivulets that come out from rocks in the mountains. The city is well connected by rail too. There are many trains on broad gauge to different parts of the state and also to the national capital. Airport is just 20 Km away from the city and many6 domestic flights are being conducting regular trips between Udaipur, Jaipur and Jodhpur.
