Rajasthan Dudh Talai Lake Udaipur
Dudh Talai Lake is one of the many lakes in the city of Udaipur. Udaipur, the erstwhile capital of Mewar Regime has many lakes and it is affectionately referred as the city of lakes. Lake Palace and the statue of Chetak, the famous horse of Rana Pratap Singh are the main attractions in this city. This historic city has its place in the industrial map of the state of Rajasthan with many public sector undertakings such as Hidusthan Zinc Limited headquartering here. Dudh Talai Lake, located on the southern side of Shiv Nivas Palace is unique with the presence of a beautifully designed rock garden. Sunset in the Pichola Lake is attractive when you have it from the top of this garden. Panoramic view of the city of Udaipur is also equally attractive from here. City witnesses a heavy crowd in the recent years and fortunately it has enough infrastructures to accommodate the crowd. There are several hotels and restaurants to cater to the need of visitors. Udaipur is a cultural center too. You can see many shops near the Dudh Talai Lake and in other parts of the city selling handicrafts that are the special features of this region. Colorful traditional dresses, leather goods etc are the main articles being sold in these shops. Wooden handicraft items too have many buyers here.
History
City of Udaipur was established in 1559 as the capital city of Mewar Regime by Rana Udai singh. The legend is that he met a saint at this place and it is the saint who advised him to construct a city at this place and shift his capital to here. Surrounded by hills it provided a natural safety from the attacks of enemies. It remained as the capital of Princely state of Mewar under British Regime too. Udaipur is blessed with many natural lakes and most of them are formed from the flowing water getting stagnated in the lower valley of the surrounding hills. Thus it earned the name as city of lakes. Dudh Thalai Lake is also a natural lake which has been beautified several times at different occasions. Presently the entire area has been developed to a tourist spot including M.L.Verma park and Lake Pinchola. Government has come up with many programs including musical fountain at Dudh Talai Lake to promote tourism.
Attractions
Dudh Talai is a beautiful lake situated on the side of Lake Pinchola. This lake contributes partly to the beautiful triangle consisting of Lake Pinchola and M.L.Verma garden. Manikya Lal Verma Garden is a showcase of great architecture and landscape which is built Machala Magra. From here you can have a panoramic view of the city including Pinchola Lake, Jag Mandir, and City Palace etc. Rock garden and the eye catching sight of sunset at Lake Pinchola are other attractions here. Here is a musical fountain to arrange visual and audio feast to the visitors. Evenings are more beautiful here with the beautiful sunset and the feast of musical fountain. You can also enjoy a ropeway ride to Karmi Mata Temple too. Besides, there are many things to visit in Udaipur such as Lake Palace, Chetak Statue etc. As the city has very good local transport system it is very easy to get an access to all these places. Besides, Ajhar Museum and Udaipur Solar Observatory are the two other structures that attract visitors. Though there is no restriction for visiting the city, it is better to avoid visiting from June to September due to extreme weather conditions. Due to its proximity to desert and to Himalayas, the region experiences extreme summer as well as extreme winter.
How to Reach
Udaipur is one of the most important cities in Rajasthan and hence connected well with rest of the state. Dabok airport is just 20 Km away from the city and it is well connected with rest of the state airports and also with New Delhi, the national capital. The city is well connected by rail and road too, it is located in the golden quadrennial national highway no: 8. Once you reach Udaipur, it is very easy to reach Dudh Talai Lake by local bus or taxi.
