Maharastra Rankala Lake
Rankala Lake lies in the Kolhapur district of Maharashtra state. It is one of the most fabulous and stunning locations which is directly connected to the Panhala Fort. It is believed that Shivaji Maharaj had crossed this fort. In the recent times, Rankala Lake is a wonderful place for the local residents of Kolhapur who come to spend their weekends with their family. Along the lake, a small garden called “Padpath Udyan’ has been constructed by the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation from where one can enjoy the amazing lake views and also have a quiet walk too.

History
Before the 8th century, Rankala Lake has been just a stone quarry but after the earthquake of the 9th century, a number of changes happened to the place. Huge amount of water started collecting around the quarry which was later given the name of Rankala Lake. The Rankala Lake was constructed by the Chhatrapatis of Kolhapur. Near the lake, there is a beautiful temple and a Nandi. Nandi is considered to be the chariot of Lord Shiva and it is believed that Nandi moves a distance of about single wheat grain forward as well as backward every day. On the north side of Rankala Lake, you have the “Shalani Palace” while on the north eastern end you have the “Padmaraje Garden” which enhances the beauty of Rankala Lake.
How to Reach
Kolhapur is well connected to the different routes by trains as well as buses therefore tourists will not find any problem in reaching Kolhapur. The nearest railway station is a Kolhapur railway station or you can also come to Mumbai and then hire a bus to reach Kolhapur. The total distance is just 379 kilometers while from Pune the distance is 230 km. As different transport modes are available hence the tourists can choose any one of them.

Rankala Lake is one of the most popular recreation spots of Kolhapur. Tourists visit the lake all through the year hence there is no perfect time to visit the lake.
