Karnataka Shanti Sagara
Shanthi Sagara Lake is situated in the Davangere district of Karnataka. This lake was constructed during the year 1128. The long history of more than 800 years is self explanatory regarding the importance of this lake. This lake has a circumfence of 19 miles and water of the lake is spread into 6550 acres. From irrigation facility by this tank, more than 50 villages are getting benefits. A helping river of Tungbhadra, named Haridra makes a gorge where this lake is constructed. This irrigation tank is constructed between two hills. The embankment of this lake touches the main road connecting to the Channagiri and Davangere.This lake has restricted the flood activities from a long past and also having the big pressure of water inside the tank. This is a hazard but being looked after.This lake is also known as Sulekere which carries the meaning of Peace keeper tank. Hence Sullukere is renamed as Shanthi Sagara.
History
In this lake, there are two Sluices have been provided namely “Sidda”: and “Basawa”. Both the hoses have been working satisfactorily since long. In case of any drought, the refilling arrangements have been made from Bhadra Dam. Princes Shantava, has constructed this tank and on the name of princess, this tank was renamed as Shanthi Sagara. This tank is also considered as one of the largest tanks in entire Asia continent. This tank was constructed during the period of 11th or 12th century. The city where the tank was originally constructed has been told submerged in the tank. Princes Shantava was born to King Ragi Raaya. She was told to have some magical powers vested in her. She constructed the tank. There is a stone showing the date of construction alongside the lake, is 1311 saka.
Tourist Attraction
Davangere district has vari9ous places for tourism and this tanks is one of them.A guesthouse has been constructed near the tank to facilitate the tourists. In near future, some amenities and boating facilities will be made available.
Siddeshwara Temple
This temple is located near the tank and has a religious approach too. Architecture of this temple is classically designed and the tower of the temple, which is stepped, has very beautiful carvings inside. This temple is told to be constructed during 1468 AD. Inside the temple premises, shrine of Goddes Durga has also been created with a beautiful architectural sense. A three days fair in the month of February is organized every year in the temple premises. Mahashivaratri is celebrated here with grand customs.
Fish Seed Production Farm
A farm for production of fish seeds of various species is also here. The management of this farm is being undertaken by the Government of Karnataka. This farm has been spread in 4.15 Hact. More than 400 fishermen work here for their survival.

Davangere district has all the three major transportation connection.
By Air: Nearest airport to this station is Bangalore. From there, major bus services and private taxies are available.
By Train: One can reach here by trains. All the major trains are connected with Davangere via Bangalore.
By Road : This sarovar is located at 40 kilometers distance from Davangere.Channagiri is also located at 21 kilometers from here.
