Himachal Pradesh Macchial Lake
This is a beautiful lake which is situated in Mandi District of Himachal Pradesh. It has been named after an avatar of Vishnu- Macchendru Devta a Matasya (Fish) Avtar of Lord Vishnu. It is for this reason that the lake is considered to be sacred by the devotees. Being an important picnic spot the lake is situated some 7 kilometers from Joginder Nagar town, the nearest rail head also.

It is basically on weekends and holidays that locals as well as tourists arrive here and worship the fish inhabiting the lake waters. The waters of Gugli Khad meet with the waters of Uhl River. It is place which is abundant in temples which have all been dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Fishing in the lake water is strictly prohibited. With a cool climate you can enjoy the views of the lake too. You can even have a walk around the lake and explore the beauty of the nature.
Baijnath Temple: This temple is located 21 kilometers away from the city and is temple built in the memory of Lord Shiva. It is a reminiscence of the 9th century. You can see the idol of Lord Shiva, in the form of a Vaidyanath. It is believed that ravan, the he worshipped the idol so as to get blessed with immortality. It is an impressive structure which is nestled within the Beas Valley and is situated near Mandi Road.
Banderi Temple: This temple is seen over a peak of the same name, Banderi Temple and is situated at a height of 5225 meters. In the festivals of Navratri, a public lunch is organized. Nearby the temple you can also visit the Karanpur Fort.
Chaturbhuja Temple: It is an historic temple which was the creation of the Pandava brothers. It is situated at a height of t 4830 meters. It is temple of the goddess Durga and is a part of Basahi Dhar.
Toy Train: It links the stations of Pathankot and Joginder Nagar. It is considered to be another attraction worth witnessing and riding on it also. Riding on this train you can enjoy the beautiful hills and other charming sites. The glories of nature and spectacular views of both the cultural and historical monuments that come en route are captivating enough

History
Macchial Lake is considered to be a low altitude lake. It is located in the Mandi district which is some 7 kilometers from the Joginder nagar town. It gained historical significance as it has been named after the Matasya Avtar Macchendru Devta of Lord Vishnu.

The best time to visit the lake is in between May and October

Since the lake is situated in Mandi, the distance from the Mandi is approximately 60 kilometers and from Pathankot it is approximately 160 kilometers. You can even travel from Pathankot to Joginder Nagar by train.
