Dashair
This lake is located at Rohtang Pass in the area of Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh.Average altitudinal height of this lake is approximately 4270 mtrs from mean sea level. The only amazing thing about this lake is the depth.On various spots, this lake is deeper more than 3 kilometers.This depth is not find in the lakes all over the world. Due to its depth, this lake is also called as Sarkund.
Dhankar
This lake is also located in nearby district, Spiti. Spiti is a part of Lahol district in Himachal Pradesh.This lake is a high altitude lake and in this scenario, the depth of the lake is obvious to be more than 2 kilometers.
History
Various religious myths are also in vogue regarding origin of these lakes. It is believed that King Puran Lal of Syalkot (now in Pakistan) visited high altitude areas of Himachal Pradesh (then Punjab) and planned to construct a lake at this spot. This lake is a mixture of nature and man made arrangements. More than half portion of the lake was naturally constructed and remaining portion was constructed by the efforts of King Puran Lal. In 1462 the construction was completed and the lake came into present existence.
Dhankar lake is a naturally constructed lake in Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh. More than four years were spent on renovation of this lake as banks were badly deteriorated. By the efforts of King Puran Lal of Syalkot, the lake was renovated again. One religious myth is that Lord Shiva stayed here for some time while he was wandering in search of Lord Vishnu who expelled from Swarga in search of Padmawati, and her conveyance ox Nandi drunk some water from this place and as a reward Lord Shiva blessed this area with plenty of water in the form of Dhankar lake.
Another religious myth is popular that Lord Indra saw the dryness of this area and become very disappointed. He requested Lord Shiva to look into the matter but Lord Shiva was in search of Lord Vishnu. Seeing the delay, Lord Indra thrown his axe and by the impact of his axe, a spring came out and formed a lake. Since then on every Mouni Amavasya, a festival is celebrated by the residents of this area.
This place is full of natural scenic beauty and snaky roads.Hill area provides a beautiful picturesque environment for a traveler.
How to Reach
By Air : To reach Dhankar and Dashair there are only two ways of transportation.By Air and By road. By air travelling is only possible upto Kullu. From there regular road transports are available upto Lahol district. A quite adventures trekking is to be done to access this lake.
By Road : By road sources are also available but not in very good condition. Frequency of road transportation is also not good.
By Rail : Nearest rail head is Shimla. From where, road transports are available.
