Gujarat Narayan Sarovar
This sarovar has a special importance for pilgrimage in India. Lakhpat division of Kuttchh district in Gujarat is the location of this sarovar. The name of this lake is derived from Lord Vishnu, as Narayan is one of the names of Lord Vishnu.It s believed that holy river saraswati fills its water into this sarovar and thus this lake is considered famous holy lake in India. Famous temples of Shri Trikamraiji, Laxminarayan, Dwarkanath, Ranchodraiji and Laxmiji are located at this lake.
History
During the 1780-90, the five another temples were built by the Queen of Rao Deshalji. In all the above mentioned temples, sufficient arrangements of accommodation have been made by the temple administration for pilgrims. As per the theology observed by Hindus, that five holy Sarovars, namely Mansarovar, Narayan sarovar, Bindu Sarovar Pushkar Sarovar and Pampa Sarovar are called Panch sarovar, Narayan sarovar is one of them and reason being has special importance for pilgrims.On the occasion of fair, which is held in the month of kartik, according to Hindu calendar, the rush and zeal of this area is viewable. Those who follow the Pushtimarg, one of the ways of Hinduism, also visit this lake as it is believed that Mahaprabhu Vallabhacharya visited this lake and spend some time here.
Attractions
One can see the natural wandering of Antelopes and Chinkaras of Red color. During the year 1981, this lake was officially recognized and renamed as Narayan sarovar sanctuary. Name of bird sanctuary located here is named after Narayan sarovar.
In this sanctuary, a number of migratory birds inhabited. In this lake the temperature of water remains the same throughout the year hence, birds migrates here all the year. Like other lakes of Gujarat, where the winter season is good for migratory birds, this lake has no such issue. Flamingos, Cranes, Herons, Water flow folks are some of the important bird species which can be seen throughout the year. Earlier, before official notification of this sanctuary, people often play haunting of birds here. But presently, a strict check is imposed on these activities.
How to Reach
By Air: No direct air route is available upto Kuttcch. One will have to de-board at Bhuj of Gandhinagar.From there, frequent road transports are available up to this sarovar.
By Rail: Kutcch is the nearest railway station. Meter gauge and Broad gauge railway lines are available.From other parts of the country, various trains are available up to Kuttch. From railway station, easy and affordable road transport is available.
By Road: Within Gujarat and outside from Gujarat, road links are better for accessing this lake. Various tour operators also operate their bus services with better amenities. Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation also provides regular bus services to Narayan sarovar.
