Gujarat Nal Sarovar
Nal Sarovar Bird Sanctuary is one of the largest wetland bird sanctuary of India and the largest one in entire Gujarat. This sanctuary is located at about 655 kilometers away from Ahmedabad and at Sanand village. Major attractions of this sanctuary are migratory birds. More than 100 species of migratory birds are inhabited in this sanctuary during winter season. The lake, which is the major source of attraction of this place, is spread in an area of more than 120 sqkms. The banks of this lake are full of flora and fauna. Surroundings of this lake is beautiful and having some typical spots for allowing the tourists to spend their weekends. Brahminy Ducks and Herons visit here during winter. A large number of birds attract the visitors. Earlier this spot was not much familier as the means of transportation were not too developed. But since last decade, the amenities and transportation means have been increased and accessibility to this lake has become multiple. A large number of water flow flock come here after the monsoon season is over. Rosey Pelicans, Flamingos and other migratory birds are included in the total population of birds inhabited here.
History
This sanctuary was established two decades back as a natural place for migratory birds.During 1995, special arrangements were made and the natural site was erected. These arrangements were success and invited a lot of birds during winter season. Nearby lake provides the better water source for water flow ducks. Some of the ponds which are shallow in nature and enough wide, are also the reason for inhabiting of migratory birds. The banks of this river are also solid, spotless and thus make the natural place of some of the bird. This lake is the heaven for migratory birds between October to February when season is started chilling and freezing. The last February is the time when migratory birds leave this sanctuary for next year.
Attractions
Abhiruchi Kendra
There is a famous and encouraging “Abhiruchi Kendra” located near the lake.This center is full of facts regarding migratory birds.A specially designed Kiosk is placed here which has recording of more than 225 species of migratory birds.Out of 225 species of birds found in this sanctuary, 140 are water based and 85 species are of migratory nature. No more than 30 species of these birds can be watched by the tourists as maximum number of the birds are inhabited in the deeper areas of the sanctuary/lake and to watch those, a boat is required. After going inside the lake, those birds can be attached but this is not sure as the coming of human make the birds ferrous and they hide themselves. Heron, Ducks, Cranes, Pelican Egrets, Cormorant and Crane etc are some of the important bird species who migrate to this lake every year. How the migratory birds come to this lake in a specific file formation from a long distance has been depicted in the Abhiruchi Kendra. In this center, the special focus has been imposed on 30 species of migratory birds which regularly comes to this lake.
Horse Riding
Horse ride facility is also available at this lake. One can afford it on minimal charges.Horse riding is also one of the good attractions for this lake. A good quantity of white and brown horses is available at the lake at all times.
Bharwad Folk Dancers
A special tribe, named Bharwad is resides near the lake which is migratory in nature and based on sheep farming. This tribe is full of talent of artisanship and folk dance.This tribe also serves the boatman job at the lake. Country boats are available at the lake after paying a minimal cost to the Bharwad tribe.For inside view of the lake which is possible after hiring a boat, many visitors prefers to hire a boat.
