Bihar Kanwar Lake
Kanwar Lake is known as one of the largest fresh water oxbow lake in India. It is situated in central Bihar about 22 km north from the town called Begusarai. This lake is encircled by the river called Burigandak both in the west part and the north part of the state. The lake has a bracelet type design which has a high curve and also a round bend into two connections on the direction to the river Burigandak.
History
The meandering feature of the river Burigandak has created this lake which has become a home for more than 106 species birds. This lake is well known as one of the best bird sanctuary in India. More than 60 species migratory birds nestle here in this lake in the season of winter. They come from the different parts of central Asia and make a crowd here. That is why this place becomes a great attraction to the bird watcher during this season. This sanctuary is stretched over 67.5 square km. In the year 1987 this sanctuary was established as the protected area. This lake is nest for a huge number of flora and fauna who are very important for keeping the balance in the ecological system. As this lake creates a communication between the relict and the species there is the need of the conservation.

The vegetation covering the entire area of the Park consists of different kind of trees like the Bamboo, Bamboo, Neem, Sissoo, Imili, Khajur ,Sohar, Siris, , Tar and Babool. This lake is also a room for the wild animals like Jackals, , Indian Fox, Palm Squirrel, Rhesus Macaque Common Mongoose , and ,Nilgai. One can find a number of reptiles here like Tortoises, Water Snakes, , Cobra Lizards, Dhaman and Krait. This sanctuary is the residence of the fishes which come in forty different species. All these creatures survive in this lake are a great attraction for the travellers. Among 106 species birds you can find some well-known bird species including the Terns and the endangered Oriental White-Backed Vulture, Yellow Throated Sparrow, Magpie Robin, Jungle Babbler, , Bush Lark, Palm Swift, , Painted Snipe, Red Wattled Lapwing, Crested Serpent Eagle, Tailor Bird, Black Drongo, Black Winged Kite, Black Red Start, Swallow, the Long Billed Vulture and Purple Rumped Sunbird Spotted Owlet.

How To Reach
Begusarai is connected to the NH 28 and 31. It is also connected to the rest of Bihar through the state highway road network. As Patna is the closest airport you can reach the spot boarding on the flight. Getting to this tourist spot is very easy. You can easily reach the spot from any part of the country. You can take the BSRTC buses which are available and come at regular intervals. You can reach the place in monsoon. Besides October and June is the best time to visit the place. You can find the Panch Mandir, Naulakha temple which can be enjoyed as the adjoining attractions of this place.
