Andhra Pradesh Kolleru Lake
Kolleru is known as one of the largest lake in Asia that is situated in between the Godavari River and the delta Krishna in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India. Kolleru is stretched to two district of Andhra Pradesh- west Godavari and Krishna. This fresh swallow water lake is considered to be the ideal habitat for the birds, fishes, amphibians and also for the turtles.
History
Two marvellous plates made of copper of Pallava dynasty was discovered in the lake. It relates to the history of Ganga Vanshi Orissa king, and Langula Narasimha Deva (Langulya Gajapathi Raju). According to the history of the legends, the fort named Gajapathi was situated at Kolleti Kota that is on the eastern side islands of the lake. The Kolleru Lake is nourished with the seasonal water of Budamereu and the Tammileru streams. These streams are connected to the drains and channels of the river Krishna and Godavari. Enriched with the splendid beauty this lake has become the major attraction for the tourists. The water of the lake is also used as the reservoir for these two rivers. This lake is fed with the natural flood. This natural source of the water is serving the inhabitant of this place and the wild life throughout the ages.
If you want to see the great pelican then this place will quench your thirst. Because this is world’s one of the breeding locate of the grey pelican which comes very few in number. Not only that this place has earned a position in the international sphere having the quality of the wetland. The Andhra Pradesh government has added an extra importance to it declaring the lake as the wild life sanctuary vides GO MS 120 on 4th October, 1999.

Flora Fauna
This lake is enriched with flora and fauna which catches the attention of the migratory birds. Between the months of October and March these birds come here from northern Asia and the eastern Europe. During this time around 20,00,000 birds come to this place. Birds like Glossy Ibises, Asian Open-billed Storks (Anastomus oscitans), , White Ibises, Teals, Painted Storks (Mycteria leucocephala), Pintails, Shovellers and among the migratory birds Red-Crested Pochards, Blackwinged Stilts, Avocets, , Wigeons, Gadwalls and Cormorants, Common Red shanks , Herons,Garganys, Flamingos and others make a crowd during this season. This wild life sanctuary is stretched to 308 km.
Present Situation
At present the beauty of the lake is exploiting by the uncontrollable greed of the people. Their money making interest has turned the lake into a mere drain spoiling the life of the thousands fishes. There is also another reason responsible for the destruction of this one of the largest lake in the India and that is the increasing pollution. This pollution is contaminating the water of the lake in such a depressing way that getting pure water from this lake is just out of the question now. Therefore it can be realised that how much adverse effect it has on the life of its inhabitant. The diseases are capturing the life of the people enormously. Hence the experts are afraid of losing the existence of the lives from this place permanently if the ecological diversity is being affected by this pollution. Moreover the rainfall pattern and the interference of the sea water have made the situation worse for the surrounding people. The government is trying best to save the life of this sanctuary from the pollution and also from the selfish interest of the people
How To Reach
From Hydrabad the tourists can take the trains connected to all parts of this state. But still this place holds its beauty in all terms. To explore the hidden beauty of this lake the tourists can reach from Atapaka and from Kaikaluru that is 1.5 km away. You can also visit the place from Gudivakalankas 3 km away from Gudivakalanka. Tourists can take a bus also to view this entire place.
