Andhra Pradesh Himayat Sagar
The lake of Himayat Sagar is considered to be a beautiful and picturesque lake located in Hyderabad. This beautiful lake also serves as a beautiful weekend picnic spot for both the tourists as well as locals. The Himayat Sagar Lake is located some 20 kilometers from the city of Hyderabad and is situated parallel to another lake which is the Osman Sagar. The best time to visit the lake is from October to March. It is considered to be a paradise for those who love driving as they can enjoy many of the scenic beauty alongside the exotic lake.
It is the state tourism which organizes all sorts of water sports for the adventure seekers. In this lake you can enjoy water sports such as boating, water-skiing, para-sailing and even cruising in motorboats. These competitions are held throughout the year and all sorts of people including the locals as well as tourists throng the shores of the lake which certainly makes it to be one of the most lively and colorful place.
History
As it is said the history of any place lies in the place and its surroundings and it is history which makes a place popular. This is equally true for this lake also which is a historical site.
The lake took shape in 1927 on the banks of the Musi River. The lake took its name after Himayat Ali Khan who was the juvenile son of the 7th Nizam of Hyderabad. Â Due the greenery and grassy patch which encompasses the lake is what makes to be a truly ideal picnic spot.
The Himayat Sagar Lake in Hyderabad is basically a man-made lake mainly to store rain water as the city of Hyderabad receives minimal rainfall during the rest of the year. The lake serves another purpose also and that is to provide water for drinking as well as irrigation purposes.

Every city has some or the other attractions and this is also true for the Himmat Sagar Lake. It is the attractions surrounding the place which give the place its popularity.
The lake is popular as a visitor attraction and a summer resort. The lake has many sites and places which are of interest, many of which are important to the cultural heritage of Hyderabad. Some of the major attractions of the lake are as follows:
Mrigavani National Park
The Mrigavani National Park is situated some 25 km from Hyderabad in Chillum. It is indeed a perfect place to unwind after a week of hard work and that too in the lap of nature amidst wildlife. Â The park is sprawled over an area of 700 acres. It has to its credit more than 600 species of birds, 20 species of snakes and other animals.
Some of the major attractions of the park include an education center, a well stocked library an auditorium and also a museum. However one of the most popular attractions here is the Snake show.
You can visit the park at any time of the year as the weather is pleasant all throughout. If you wish to stay in the park then there are cottage facilities which can be rented but you will have to book them in advance. You can reach the park with the help of the local state run buses, trains, auto rickshaws and taxis.
Golconda Fort
Golconda is a name which refers to the term ‘Golla Konda’ and is also synonymously referred to as the Shepherd’s Hill. It is a fort which was built by the rulers of Kakatiya Dynasty after the discovery of an idol by a shepherd atop the hill.
The fort is situated at a height of 300 ft. on a granite hill. It is a fort which has been fortified by 10 km long wall. Golconda was the ruling capital of Qutub Shahi Dynasty. One of the major attractions of the fort is the sound and light which is shown only in the evenings.
How To Reach
In order to enjoy the beauty of a place you must also be able to reach it easily and conveniently. This is also equally true with this Lake which has all modes of transport available.
As the Himayat Sagar lake is located some 20 kilometers away from the city of Hyderabad, you can easily reach it by any sort of local means of transport. You can hire a tempo, auto rickshaw and even reach the lake on the many local buses plying in the city. You can also hire a private taxi to reach the lake.
