Kasaragod, also referred as Harkwillia by the Arabs in the past, is a beautiful district in the state of Kerala. With many temples, forts and national park surrounding this city, it sure is a treat for the tourists. The main land area is covered with palms and hills, with stream of rivers flowing in between. The district is situated at an elevation of 19 m from Arabian Sea. Kasaragod is surrounded at the west by the Arabian Sea and in the east by Western Ghats.

Kasaragod is situated at 12.5°N and 75.0°E. Like other districts of Kerala, Kasaragod has a high literacy rate of 85%. Male population constitutes of 49% and 51% female population.

The buildings in this city show fantastic artistry. The building roofs are made out of famous Kasaragod tiles which are made of hard red clay and walled by laterite. However, the older houses can be seen with fantastic woodwork.
