Raichur is one of the northeastern districts in Karnataka. Raichur is surrounded by Yadgir, Bijapur, Bagalkot, Koppal, Bellary districts in Karnataka and Anantapur and Kurnool districts of Andhra Pradesh to the east.

Raichur has Krishna river flowing in from the north and Tungabhadra river flowing in the south. The region is historically significant as it was once part of Ashoka’s Empire. Many inscriptions in this regard have also been found. Later on the region was ruled by Satavahanas, Chalukyas of Badami, Rashtrakutas. The region later ruled by the Kalyana Chalukyas and was also part of Kakatiyas empire. It is believed that the original fort was constructed by the Kakatiyas during the reign of Rani Rudramadevi of Warangal in 1294 AD. The region was part of Hyderabad State until Indian independence and was given to the State of Raichur.

• Bichal: Bichal is home to the Matha of Sri Saviradevaru Channaveera Shivacharya Swami
• Devarbhupur: Devarbhupur is famous for Amareshwara temple. The place is also known for its jaggery trade.
• Gabbur: Gabbur is also known for its old temples. Some of the noted temples include Male-Shankara, Venkateshwara, Ishwara, Bangara Basappa and Hanuman.
• Gandhal: Gandhal which is about 20 miles from Raichur city has a famous temple of Panchamukhi Prana Devaru (Five-headed Hanuman). This place is very near to Mantralayam in Andhra Pradesh.
