Little Nicobar island
Little Nicobar island also known as Nicobares areas, is covered with an area of 157 km2 and shores contain the islands cluster viz Menchal, Pulomilo, Treis/Albatei, Trak/Mafuya and Meroe. The huge Earth quake in the Indian Ocean as well as the Tsunami brought havoc to this place in 2004 causing huge damage and loss to the entire island.
This island is thickly covered with forests, and Mount Deoban rises to a height say of 413 meters in the central portion and the Empress Peak which is at about 401meters is covering the North Eastern part of the island. This island has the name of being a good radar target place upto 23 kms distance.
The southern group of island covers Pilo Milo, Little Nicobar, Kondul and other islands. Little Nicobar is quite a big island, covered by sudden ridges and also very sharp valleys. Dense forests are fully encountered in this island. The nearby place is also Car Nicobar.
How to Reach
Airstrip is of 43 meters on the South East coast which has no means of commercial coverage. Seaport is around the Campbell Bay on the East coast.
Ship service is available from Port Blair to this place possibly two times in a week. Air services are operated from Veer Savarkar International Airport and Car Nicobar Air Force Base.
