United Bank of India
Headquartered in Kolkata, United Bank of India is one of the prominent financial services companies owned by the Government of India. This bank is a major financial organization which helps the country to sustain its economic progress.
Although United Bank of India has pan-India approach but its major concentration is in the eastern region of India. The Government of India restructured this bank on March 30, 2009. It had been established on 1950 after merging of four Bengal based banks named Comilla Banking Corporation, Bengal Central Bank, Comilla Union Bank and Hooghly Bank.
Operation of United Bank of India is through three-tier banking operation with corporate head office and regional offices at 31 locations in India with the network of 1600 branches in almost all states and union territories.
United Bank of India merged Cuttack Bank and Tezpur Industrial Bank in the year 1961. Government of India nationalized the bank on July 19, 1969. One bigger leap of this bank was in the year 1973 when it acquired Hindusthan Mercantile Bank, so did it do in 1976 by acquiring Narang Bank of India.
Present day United Bank of India is one of the advanced banking operations with total core banking system. The bank remains a big banking organization in the country with its more than 1 lakh crore assets.
