Syndicate Bank
One of the oldest commercial banks of India, Syndicate Bank Ltd., was founded as Canara Industrial and Banking Syndicate Limited while it was incepted in the year 1928. This bank was nationalized on July 19, 1969 when the government of India had taken initiative to nationalize it with thirteen other Indian commercial banks.
Syndicate Bank Ltd., had started its operation with the initial capital of Rs. 8000 at the Brahmavar in Dakshin Kannada district of Karnataka state. Very soon the bank extended its network to Mumbai. The bank has taken keen interest in supporting the deprived sections of the society especially the local weaver community.
This bank has the history of big collaborations and merging. The then Canara Industrial and Banking Syndicate Limited merged with Maharastra Apex Bank Limited and Southern India Apex Bank Limited to strengthen its operation. It was during 1964 that this bank renamed to Syndicate Bank Limited with making Manipal its corporate headquarters.
Today Syndicate Bank Ltd., has its operation in overseas as well. Its branch in London and representative offices in Doha and Muscat play key roles from overseas. By now Syndicate Bank Ltd., runs successfully with its 2650 branches spread in whole country.
