Bank of Ceylon was founded in 1939, when Ceylon was a British Colony at Colombo. From 1941 it started to expand in various parts of Ceylon, and Bank of Ceylon has developed more than 300 Branches and 20 Extension Counters covering entire Ceylon. Bank of Ceylon has three overseas offices in India , UK and Male, besides having Agents in various countries all over the world.
In 1961 Bank of Ceylon was declared a Government Organization and also made a Semi Government Institute. Bank of Ceylon has provision for all facilities at par with other Banks, and has centralized operations with its Headquarter operating from the 32 storey building.
In 2010 Bank of Ceylon achieved record profit of LKR 10 Billion
Operations of Bank of Ceylon in Pakistan have since been transferred to another Bank.
