Maharashtra Amboli Hill Station
History
Amboli is a beautiful hill resort which is not so popular. It is situated in the southern range of Sahyadri hills and near Sawantwadi. It is located at a height of 690m. Amboli is the last peak route- after this the coastal highlands become flat beaches. During the rainy season this hill station becomes foggy. It is covered with dense forests and extreme valleys. This calm hill-top covers some of the best bird’s-eye sights of the Konkan coast.
A British political agent Colonel Westrop built the place as a hill station. The Bauxite mines situated 10 km away offer a different but pleasing trip.
This place is visited by more than 50,000 tourists every year. The tourist rush begins after Diwali and continues till the summer season ends. People can watch beautiful waterfalls during the rainy season. Summers are very nice and cool.
Amboli is a calm and attractive hill station. Tourists can enjoy scenes of crossing valley and sandy ornamentation of the lines of trees of the Konkan coast.
The hill station is famous as a honeymoon destination also. The place has got all amenities for the honeymoon couples. Amboli is a place which provides a pleasant experience for everybody.

How To Reach
Amboli By Air
Goa is the nearest airport which is well connected by local flights to Mumbai and Bangalore. International flights are available in Mumbai airport which is situated 555km away from Amboli.
Amboli By Train
It is well connected through rail. Savantwadi is the nearest railhead which is 30km away from Amboli. People can take taxi and reach Amboli city. The cost will be around Rs.250/-. Savanwadi railway station is connected to many rail heads in the state through broad gauge.
Amboli By Bus
Amboli is connected to cities in Goa and Mumbai by road. Mostly taxis and three-wheeled rickshaws ply on the roads. There are tourist buses also from Mumbai to Savantwadi. The distance is about525km and the bus fare can be around Rs1200/- per head.
Places To Visit
Sunset Point
During sunset in the evening, the horizon turns into orange shades. Before the sun sets into the deep blue waters of Arabian Sea, the horizon looks red and pink.
Madhavgadh Fort
Madhavgadh Fort is four times the size of Shanivarwada in Pune. It is now in a state of destruction. There is a dedicatory on the main road. It explains the war; the tombstone indicates that there was only one single British soldier who died in the war.
Nagartas Waterfall
Nagartas waterfall is situated just 9km away from Amboli. People visit this place on the weekends. Visitors arrive mainly during the monsoon. This is the time when the waterfall rushes down the hills in white lather washing down the Sahyadris with its water aggressiveness.
Hiranykeshi
Pilgrims arrive in large number to worship Lord Shiva during Mahashivratri. The Hiranykesh River moves down from mountain rock and flows down from this place. One can spend hours in fishing here. There is a small temple which is 5.5km away from Ambola.
Botanical Garden
This is one of the famous places of Ambola. People can move around the woods in an open mind in order to just enjoy. Vanbhojan with family and friends will make your day memorable.
Karvi
This tree gives flowers once in every seven years. When flowers arrive, the beauty of Amboli is increased.

Summers
During March to May the average temperature ranges between 22’C to 40’C. People can go out for outings except for hot May days.
Monsoons
June to September is the rainy season offering good rains. The climate is humid but comfortable with reasonable temperature.
Winters
The winter season is from December to February and the temperature comes down to 10’C. Tourists visit during this time.
Best time to visit Amboli is between October and February. The weather remains cool. June to September offers comfortable climate but it is advisable to carry raincoats. March to May is suitable for visiting places but one has to drink lots of waters.

People speak Marathi,Hindi and English. Amboli is popular for handmade wooden toys. People of Amboli prepare wonderful wooden figures like fruits and different toys. People of Amboli do business in spices and honey.

Festivals And Activities
Adventure Caving
Adventure sport lovers can enjoy exploring the cave besides Shivlinga. It can be a challenge to them. Cave is 300 meters in length. There are lots of obstructions such as black out, fish biting, mud, unsafe Jalwas and restricted air when one enters through the narrow way. Inside the cave there are seven ponds. Light of the sun is found in the last pond. Many mysteries are there which are yet to be discovered. Mystery is there of a large throne found inside. These facts were discovered by young adventure lovers in January 1981.

Sawantwadi
There is a municipal council in Sawantwadi, which is a local civic body. Earlier Sawantwadi was the capital city of the ‘Royal Kingdom of Sawantwadi’.
Sawantwadi is famous for its wooden toys(which include life-like wooden fruits and vegetables models). Special thanks should be given to an active woodcraft industry. It is also gaining popularity as a tourist spot.
Kudal
Kudal is a census town located in the Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra. It is situated on the highway of Mumbai-Goa near Bhansal River. It is one of the ancient settlements in Konkan region. The staus of a trading town has changed this little place to a busy Bazar town. Kudal is the center of the sindhudurg district. The main place of attraction is Ghodebav where horses come and get down in the well for drinking water.
