Kerala Devikulam Hill Station
History
Situated at an altitude of 1800 m above sea level Devikulum a hill station is located at a distance of 16 km from Munnar in the Idukki district of the Indian southern state of Kerela. Its natural beauty is pristine and sweet smell of the native flowers and exotic herbs makes it an ultimate destination for a nature lover. Devikulum literally means Devi, which refers to Sitadevi of the Ramayana and kulam means pond. Religious stories tells us that deviSita took bath in the lake. The lake is luxurious in its vegetative growth and the pond water is said to possess curing abilities along with the religious connection. Tamil is the widely spoken language. The added attraction is the Pallivasal Waterfall with its lush and exuberant vegetation of gum trees.
Another meaning of Devikulum is the goddesses’ lake. The mythical stories tells us that Sita and lord Rama visited this lake during their exile for fun and so it was named after them. Some stories clearly emphasis that the scenic beauty of the place was the attraction for them towards choosing it as a meeting place.

March to May is the summer season. Being hilly region temperatures range between 8C to 16C which is quite nice.
It experiences heavy rain between June and September . Rain is brought mainly by South-west monsoon.

The three famous and well-known temples in Devikulam are the Ganesh, Ayennar and Mariyamman Temple. Among famous festivals one of the most important festivals in Devikulam involves offering rice and millets to the God of respective temples in the place.

Get Around
Transport facilities are limited as no regular bus routes are present. Around 12 families possess a motorbike and about 33%owns a bicycle. Men are the sole drivers of motorbikes so women, children and the elderly generally have to walk to their destination. Devikulam also lacks a stationery shop, therefore residents have to travel to Nadukuppam (4km) for their food, educational purposes, and other utilities.
Only one family has a tractor while ten families own bullock carts for their transportation and farm needs.
Shopping
No shopping centres, though tea and aromatic spices can be taken home as memoirs.
