Assam Maibong Hill Station

This hill station has very mesmerizing beauty and owing to this specialty only, this is one of the most visited hill station of Assam. Geographically this hill station is located at an altitude of 1164ft above the MSL. However, this station is located at a distance of 338 kilometers far from Guwahati but sufficient means of conveyance are available to access Maibong. In earlier period, this hill station was the kingdom of old Kachari state. The Kachari kings utilised this station as their capital for more over two centuries.This hill station is located on an ideal longitudinal angle. 25.30N and 93.170E longitudinal location provides the best and tolerable climate of this place throughout the year. Halflong district also preserves some sculptures of historical importance. These sculptures are self-explanatory and live. Naturally, rich and sound surroundings of this hill station also invite a visitor here repeatedly. Ramachandi temple of this place is another major source of attraction. This temple was constructed in 1536 AD. After a bloody war, the kingdom was shifted to some other place as Kachari rulers were defeated by Tai-Ahoms. New capital was shifted to Dimapur. Where a stone house was constructed to commemorate the golden era went assed in previous capita. Various sculptures to this effect are still available in this stone house. River Mahur banks this hill station. This is just at a distance of 47 kilometers from Halflong. The geographical distance of various important places of Assam from this hill station are as under.

(a) Halflong - 47 kms, (b) Dima Hasso – 142 kms, (c) Guwahati 338 kms and (d) Shillong – 300 kilometer.

Maibong Weather and Best Time to Visit

The period of October to April is the best time to visit this hill station. During winter, the temperature substantially goes down and becomes chilled. Subtropical climate results in acute cold climate during winters. Monsoon season lasts for a short period from July to Mid September.

How To Reach

All the three major ways to access the Maibong are available.

By Road

Lamding is the boarding place for by road travelers. Frequent bus services as well as private taxies are also available from Halflong and other major cities of Assam. 

By Rail

Guwahati is the nearest railway station which is located at 338 kilometers far from Maibong.From here buses and taxies are also available for this hill station.

By Air

The near strip is Guwahati. This airport is linked with Delhi for route flying operations.

Ramchandi Temple

A famous temple named Ramchandi is located near this hill station.This temple was constructed in 12th century AD.

Maibong Waterfalls

Mahur river is another big attraction in this place, which banks this place.Waterfalls near this river are creating a very good sight. This waterfall is 45 kilometers away from Maibong. Accept the above-mentioned places; some nature made treks are also there which the adventure lovers can admire.
