Panipat district is situated in the state of Haryana is a district of historic importance. The district is located on national highway one. It is ninety kilometers away from capital city, Delhi and one hundred and sixty nine kilometers from Haryana. The three vital battles in Indian history were fought at Panipat. On 21st April, 1526, the first battle of Panipat fought between Ibrahim Lodhi and Babur. In 1556, the second battle between Akbar and Vikramaditya and in 1761 the third battle between Ahmed Shah Abdali, and Sadashivrao Bhau Peshwa were fought in Panipat. In Bhagwad Gita, Panipat is referred to as Dharmakshetra.

There are three Tehsils in the district of Panipat which are Panipat, Samalkha and Israna.

On the boundaries of the district lie the districts of Karnal, Jind and Sonipat. It has a border with the state of Uttar Pradesh.

Panipat is famous for manufacturing of cheap quality blankets mainly supplied to the soldiers and also carpets. Shoddy Yarn is the special type of yarn produced in this district. The district is often called as “City of Weaver”.

Agricultural machinery produced in Samalkha, a small town near Panipat is supplied to Uttar Pradesh.
