Bhiwani, located in the Bhiwani District of Haryana is also known as the city of temples. This has led it to be a center of spiritual learning. It is believed that the name is derived from a Rajput ruler Neem, whose wife was named Bhani. The name was subsequebtly changed to Bhiwani.

This city finds mention in the Ain-E-Akbari of the Mughal era which has led historiams to believe that it was prime center of commerce since the Mughal period. Famous for its temples Bhiwani is also known as “Small Kashi”. The Gauri Shankar temple is well known all over the country.

Bhiwani is at a distance of 125 kilometers from Delhi and 285 kilometers from Chandigarh. Bordered by 2 districts of Rajasthan on its west, Bhiwani’s average elevation is about 225 meters.
